Making A Donation to York Archaeological Trust

With the recent ‘pension freedom’ announcement into annuity changes, now is the ideal time to think about making a charitable cash donation. As a charity we can also reclaim the tax paid on donations (currently 25p for every £1) through the Gift Aid scheme.

We are most grateful for corporate donations from businesses, whether they be cash or stock, and can tailor packages to assist you in achieving your Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) aims.

Donating to a charity can be used to reduce the taxable profit of your business as it is classed as a Payment of Charitable Donations.

For more guidance on donating, please visit the HM Revenues and Customs website.

How Donations Have Helped Us In The Past

An anonymous bequest enabled the Trust to acquire the Micklegate Bar Museum which we re-opened in May 2010 following development. Micklegate Bar is historically the most important gateway to the city of York and is through this gateway that the reigning monarch must pass when they visit the city.

The gift we received from this anonymous donor was used to encourage more visitors to explore and enjoy learning about the huge part that the city walls have to play in York’s unique history. A series of exhibitions have explored various themes including York’s history through its walls from Roman times through to the 20th Century;  the English Civil War; how the bars became a backdrop for elaborate civic ceremonies; and whose head ended up on display at the bar following various national revolts and rebellions. Micklegate Bar Museum has since been re-branded as the Henry VII Experience.
