Minerals & Aggregates

Funding has recently been secured from English Heritage for a year-long project aimed at providing a baseline assessment of past landscape change within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site in Derbyshire.

This project is being conducted jointly with Dr Andy Howard of Landscape Research & Management. It will analyse the landforms of the valley floor, historic maps and documentary records of flood history to characterise floodplain evolution and key transformative events during the last millennium. A GIS incorporating Historic Environment Records and landform data has been constructed and modelling of the geomorphological evolution of the valley floor will be incorporated with the aim of identifying areas at risk from future environmental change.
