Iron-age Chariot Burial

In the summer of 2018, MAP Archaeological Practise, working at a development site on the Mile, Pocklington, discovered a Chariot Burial dating to the Iron Age.  YAT conservation was called in to help lift the fragile metal components including the two tyres and a composite shield.  This involved using plaster of Paris-impregnated bandages to support the artefacts, and excavating carefully to remove the components from the ground, ready for further investigative work such as X-radiography and removal of corrosion, as well as analysing mineralised organic remains.
