Four Seasons Mosaic

The conservation laboratory had been asked by the Yorkshire Museum to clean and re-grout the Four Season’s mosaic after almost 10 years of display on the floor of their Roman Gallery. The display is an interactive one, with the public given the chance to walk on the mosaic.  Wear and tear had caused part of the current grout to fail and tesserae to become loose, although this was only at the edges of the panels into which the mosaic had been divided many decades ago.

Work was done to remove the old grout from between the panels, and to replace with a new filler and to secure any loose tesserae.
