KIDS ON THE DIG!

School Groups

Schools can visit the site to see a live excavation in progress and quiz archaeologists on their work. A visit includes guided tour with a trained archaeological demonstrator and hands-on activities including sieving excavated earth for finds and identifying building materials and medieval structures. Visits take one hour.

Visits to St Leonard's cost £3.75 per pupil/student. A joint visit to Jorvik and the Dig or ARC and the Dig is £6.00 per pupil/student. To visit the dig, ARC and Jorvik £8.00 per pupil/student.

Holiday Activities

Children from the age of 6 are invited to take part in a range of archaeological activities on Saturday mornings during the school holidays. Activities include guided visit to the ruins of the Multangular Tower and St Leonard's Hospital, quizzes, sieving excavated earth for a range of finds. You could be the first to discover a long lost artefact or bone!

The activity days are 31 July, 7, 14, and 21 August from 10.00am - 12.30pm.

Adults are welcome to stay for some or all of the session, which will be led by a qualified teacher.

For health and safety reasons it is not possible to let children excavate in the trenches.
