PLACEMENT DETAILS

A number of free places will be available to either former St Leonards trainees who have spent preferably at least 4 weeks on the site, or to archaeology undergraduates with at least 4 weeks fieldwork experience. These placements will assist with the running of the project. In return they will gain further archaeological experience and will receive additional training.

Placements are available in:

  • Excavation and stratigraphic analysis. Helping with digging, site recording, stratigraphic analysis, computer inputting and assisting trainees.
  • Finds and environmental sample processing. Helping with finds cleaning and curation, the sieving and sorting of environmental samples and assisting trainees.
  • Presenting finds work to the public. Demonstrating finds work to visitors on site, and teaching finds cleaning to Taster trainees.

It may be possible to take a placement in more than one of these areas, but the placement in each area must last at least 2 weeks, preferably 4 weeks.

Accommodation is available for placements at a fee of £50 per week 2-4 weeks, £40 per week over 4 weeks. No accommodation is provided for guides.

Please send in the placement booking form, after which potential placements will be contacted to discuss the timing and content of their placement. Payment for any accommodation provided will only be required after the placement has been confirmed.

In addition to their placement weeks, Placements may also be able to take on paid work as guides, showing visitors around the site. The minimum duration of paid guiding work is 4 weeks. Those interested should click the relevant box on the placement booking form, and they will then receive further details.
