Volunteers

We are currently looking for volunteers to help mark pottery from our excavations in and around York. We use a mapping pen to label each individual sherd with a series of numbers which identify the site and layer it has come from. Due to the important nature of this work, attention to detail and a high level of accuracy are of the utmost importance, as is the ability to write small and legibly. This task would suit someone who is interested in pottery spanning all time periods of York’s history. While prior experience would be advantageous, it is by no means necessary as full training will be provided. As there is a finite amount of pottery to mark, we are currently only seeking volunteers for a fixed period. Please contact Christine McDonnell, Head of Curatorial Services, at the following e-mail address for further information and an application form.
