And after the conference...
Professor Eamonn O'Carragain, having spoken at the Conference, will be running a seminar with the theme WILFRID, ACCA AND ROME from Friday 18th September to Friday 25 September inclusive, based at the British School at Rome. He hopes to get permission to visit, for example, the Catacomb of S. Valentino on the way to the Milvian Bridge, a catacomb which had just been renovated in Wilfrid's day, and also to pay great attention to the fragments of the Chapel of John VII (705-707) in St Peter's, in particular the spolia used in the chapel: the chapel must have been in place by the time the people sent to Rome by Wilfrid in 709 got there, and is likely to have impressed them (and, whether or not Wilfrid himself survived to hear their accounts of it, must have impressed Acca when they told him of it).
Anyone interested in going to Rome and participating in this seminar should address queries to Professor O'Carragain by emailing him at eoc@ucc.ie
