Friends of York Archaeological Trust

Join the Friends – help to support our work and receive our regular magazine, Yorkshire Archaeology Today, and also gain free entry to JORVIK and DIG, as well as a programme of lectures, site tours and other activities.


Community Archaeology

Get involved with community archaeology in Greater York. Find out more about the Greater York Community Archaeology project and the community archaeology and history groups near you.


Training Excavations

Join archaeologists from the Trust for a unique opportunity to explore York's past. Courses range from one day to two weeks or more, and can be suited to all ages and abilities, with special activities available for under 16s.

Battlefield Walks

Throughout the summer YAT will be offering a series of guided walks over the historic battlefields of Yorkshire. Discover more about the battles of the past and how they affected the course of history. Click here for details of this summer's timetable.


Annual Archaeology and History Fair

Saturday October 18th 2008, The Guildhall, York

A chance to find out about archaeology in and around York, with displays from local societies and community groups. Specialist booksellers will present a range of new and second-hand books with plenty of bargains.

St Wilfrid 1300th Anniversary Conference

On 10th and 11th September 2009 a group of historians, art historians and archaeologists will assess the life and legacy of Wilfrid, Bishop of York and Abbot of Ripon and Hexham.

Among the speakers will be Richard Bailey, Paul Bidwell, Katy Cubitt, Richard Hall, Jane Hawkes, Eamonn O’Carragain and Ian Wood.

The conference will take place in St William’s College, beside York Minster. It is hoped to visit Ripon and Hexham on 12th September.
