Marston Moor: A Guide to Battle

An all-day visit to Marston Moor with archaeologist and re-enactor Russell Marwood. Very sturdy footwear and outdoor clothing are a must. Please be aware that the tour includes walking on some difficult terrain and crossing some fast roads. Includes lunch.

Yorkshire at War in the 15th century
9.15am, departs York city centre, £20 adult, £15 conc. (incl. Friends of YAT and Battlefield Trust members).
A coach tour to include a guided walk around Pontefract Castle, with a visit to their dungeon where Cromwell's soldiers carved their names in 1645, followed by a visit to Sandal Castle to explore the history of its many sieges. The day closes with visits to Wakefield's Chantry Chapel and site of the Battle of Wakefield (1460). Guide and author Helen Cox updates the battle's traditional interpretation. An afternoon visiting the 14th-century battlefields of Myton-upon-Swale and Boroughbridge with guide Julian Humphrys, author and Development Office at The Battlefields Trust. The day will be completed with a short talk on the Battlefields Trust and optional meal in the 13th-century Black Bull Inn, Boroughbridge. Please wear outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.
