The mostly adult male group could represent soldiers.
It is known that soldiers were executed for desertion and other court martial offences, so the decapitation and other wounds could represent such executions.
Sharp blade injuries: Vertebra sliced through and lower jaw showing injury.
These injuries could also have been the result of soldiers who were killed in battle, but whose bodies were recovered by their own side and given a decent burial.
Their tallness, robustness and 'sidedness' (see under 'Gladiators') could also reflect their suitability, and training, for the military.
