Who is this strange little bent figure
and what is he doing?
If you look carefully you will see that
in one hand he is holding a purse and that there are three circles,
which are meant to be coins, dropping into it.
The writing on the object is of
a Norman style and says that this is the seal of Snarrus the tax collector.
The object on which this design
appears is called a seal matrix. It would have been used to press the pattern
of the seal into soft wax on legal or trade documents. So the little figure
must be Snarrus himself with his purse of coins.
