In 2001, during archaeological excavations at the medieval St Leonard's Hospital in York, part of a Victorian garden was discovered. The garden had included pieces of decorated medieval stonework from the old hospital. Tucked behind one of the pieces of stone was this copper alloy medallion which had been made to celebrate Queen Victoria's golden jubilee in 1887. |
