Archaeologists don't just find objects and buildings,
they sometimes find much....stranger....things. In the wet soils
of York they found.... some Viking poo!
It wasn't particularly smelly or nasty and it had interesting
things to tell us because bits of food survive in it. We know that the
Vikings ate meat, fish, shellfish, cereals, fruit and nuts and there are
also traces of cereal in the poo.
When scientists looked at it they also discovered hundreds
of eggs from two sorts of worms which live inside humans if they aren't
careful about eating clean food and washing their hands.
This poor Viking certainly had tummy ache sometimes!
